Iran's Cooperation with IAEA Uncertain After Attacks

Recent events have put a strain on the relationship between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Iran is hesitant to confirm its ability to cooperate with the IAEA. This comes after strikes on Fordow and other nuclear facilities. Iran says it cannot guarantee the safety of IAEA inspectors.

Safety Concerns for IAEA Inspectors

Iran's Foreign Ministry has expressed serious concerns about the safety of IAEA inspectors. These concerns arose after attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, including Fordow.

Key point: Iran says that until it can fully assess the damage from these attacks, it cannot ensure the safety of IAEA personnel.

Trump's Stance and Sanctions

Iran also commented on Donald Trump's approach to sanctions. They dismissed it as "psychological and media games."

Trump has stated he is not engaging in talks with Iran. He also claimed that U.S. airstrikes had destroyed Iran's nuclear program.

The IAEA, however, has suggested Iran could resume enriching uranium within months.

Iranian Law Restricts Cooperation

The Iranian parliament passed a bill that stops all cooperation with the IAEA. The Guardians Council approved the bill, making it a law. This law forbids Iranian officials from working with the IAEA.

Despite this, the IAEA Director General, Rafael Grossi, has asked Iran to allow inspectors access to nuclear facilities.

Important to note: Iran says it is still assessing the damage to its nuclear facilities. It believes it is not reasonable to allow inspections until this assessment is complete.

Criticisms of the IAEA

Iran has criticized the IAEA and its Director General. Iran claims the IAEA is subject to pressure from some member states, like Israel and the United States. They believe this pressure influences the IAEA's decisions and reports.

Iran is angry about a recent IAEA report released on June 12. The report stated that Iran was not cooperating enough.

It also said Iran's nuclear activities were not transparent enough. Iran says Israel and the U.S. used this report as an excuse to attack its nuclear facilities.

Iran's Reaction to Trump's Comments

Iran finds Trump's statements inconsistent. One day he might suggest lifting sanctions. The next day, he announces more sanctions. Iran views these statements as a form of psychological warfare.

Iran also took issue with Trump's criticism of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. Iran considers Khamenei not only the head of state but also a religious leader for Shia Muslims worldwide.

Attacking Khamenei is a sensitive issue in Iran. He is the one who will decide if Iran negotiates with the United States.
