Protests Erupt in Los Angeles Over Immigration Policies

Recent immigration sweeps by the Trump administration have sparked protests in Los Angeles and other cities across the U.S.

The demonstrations began in response to actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

These actions have led to families being separated and have caused widespread anger.

Protests in Los Angeles

Los Angeles has seen four days of protests. People are angry about the immigration sweeps. The protests have sometimes turned violent.

  • Police used rubber bullets to control crowds.
  • The National Guard has been called in to help.
  • 4,000 National Guard members were sent to Los Angeles by the president.

President Trump criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom. He said Newsom was doing a bad job. Trump also said he would send even more National Guard troops if needed.

700 Marines have also been deployed.

California Sues the Trump Administration

California is fighting back against the Trump administration. Governor Newsom said the president violated the U.S. Constitution. The state has filed a lawsuit against the administration. Newsom believes the president has overstepped his authority.

ICE Actions Spark Outrage

The protests started because of ICE actions. ICE agents have been picking up undocumented migrants. Many of these people are not violent criminals.

They are day laborers and families. The immigration policy is hitting California hard. California has a large migrant population and is generally liberal.

Critics say the ICE raids are causing chaos. They want the raids to stop.

Protests Spread to Other States

The protests are not just happening in California. They are also spreading to other states. Even Texas, which is typically Republican, has seen protests.

Cities like Austin and Dallas have had demonstrations. Police in Texas have used mace and tear gas to control protesters.

Trump's Promise and the Protests

President Trump promised to deport many people during his election campaign.

These mass deportations are now leading to mass protests. There is a battle happening on the streets and in the courts.
