BRICS Leaders Speak Out on Gaza and Global Issues

The BRICS group, made up of 11 nations, recently met to talk about important world problems. The leaders shared their worries about ongoing conflicts and discussed ways to work together on issues like technology and climate change.

BRICS Condemns Attacks on Gaza

At the top of their list was the conflict in Gaza. The BRICS leaders said they were very concerned about Israel's actions, including:

  • Attacks on Gaza
  • Stopping humanitarian aid
  • Using starvation as a weapon

Brazil is taking a strong stand. They announced they will join South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. South Africa accuses Israel of genocide. Brazil's foreign minister said the recent events in the war led to this decision.

The BRICS members also talked about the military strikes against Iran. They agreed that these strikes break international law. They are worried about attacks on regular people and peaceful nuclear places.

However, Iran wanted a stronger statement.

Iran's foreign minister, Abbasi, felt the statement should have directly mentioned the United States or Israel. China and Russia supported this, but the final statement did not include those names.

Even though the leaders of China and Russia did not come to the meeting in person, they still played a role. Russia's President Vladimir Putin joined by video call.

Putin said that the old system of international relations, where only a few powerful countries make the decisions, is ending.

The BRICS group also talked about trade. They are worried about countries putting unfair taxes on goods from other countries.

Again, they did not mention the United States by name. Some countries, like Brazil, South Africa, and India, may not want to upset the U.S. President because they are trying to make trade deals with the U.S.

The BRICS summit shows that many countries are worried about current world events. They are willing to speak out and work together to find solutions. The group is becoming an important voice for countries that may not have been heard in the past.

The BRICS nations are trying to create a more fair and balanced world. They want to have more say in how things are run. The meeting in Brazil was a step in that direction.
