US to Send Patriot Missiles to Ukraine

The United States is planning to send Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine. This will help Ukraine protect itself from Russian attacks.

President Donald Trump met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Washington. They talked about sending more weapons to Ukraine. Trump confirmed that the US will sell Patriot missiles to European partners. These partners will then send the missiles to Ukraine.

Trump said that the European Union will pay for the missiles. He also said that sending the missiles will be good for US business.

Over the past few weeks, there has been a change in the relationship between the US, Ukraine, and Russia.Even after a pause in weapon supplies, Trump seems to be changing his mind about Vladimir Putin. Trump said that Putin "talks nice but then he bombs everybody in the evening."

Trump is now talking about sending more military supplies to Ukraine. This includes Patriot air defense batteries and interceptor missiles.

Trump may also announce a new set of sanctions against Russia.

Some US senators have been working on a "sledgehammer package of sanctions". Senator Lindsey Graham said that Trump is "really angry" at Putin. This announcement could also include offensive weapons for Ukraine.

Mark Rutte, the NATO secretary general, will meet with Trump, Rubio, and Hegath in Washington. Trump's special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, is also in Ukraine for a week. They will discuss defense, security, weapons, sanctions, and cooperation between the US and Ukraine.

Increased Russian Attacks

Recently, there has been an increase in Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities. Kyiv and Lutsk have been attacked repeatedly.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that in the last week, Russia launched:

  • 1,800 drones
  • 1,200 glide bombs
  • 83 missiles

Zelenskyy said that Russia is trying to scare Ukrainian citizens

and overwhelm the country's air defenses. Even on a relatively quiet night, Russia launched 136 drones and four missiles.

Zelenskyy is hopeful about using interceptor drones to shoot down Russian drones. He said that these drones are showing good results.

The US is stepping up its support for Ukraine by providing Patriot missiles

and discussing further measures with NATO and European partners. This support aims to help Ukraine defend itself against increased Russian attacks. The situation remains tense, but these actions signal a strong commitment to Ukraine's security.
