A group of aid ships, known as the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), is sailing towards Gaza.
This mission aims to bring much-needed humanitarian and medical supplies to people in the region.
Recently, this journey became more urgent and dangerous after several vessels in the flotilla faced israeli drone attacks.
In response, both Italy and Spain have sent naval ships to protect their citizens and ensure the aid reaches its destination safely.
This international effort highlights the serious challenges and risks involved in delivering humanitarian help to Gaza.

A Mission of Mercy Under Threat

The Global Sumud Flotilla started its journey late last month. It includes more than 50 boats from at least 44 countries. These vessels set sail from various ports, including Barcelona, Genoa, and Otranto.

Their path has taken them across the Mediterranean Sea, with planned stops in places like Katana, Sierros, and Tunis. The final destination is Gaza, where a severe lack of humanitarian and medical aid continues to cause hardship for residents. The flotilla carries essential items to help those in need, offering a lifeline of support.

Israeli Drone Attacks on Aid Vessels

The journey for the aid flotilla has not been smooth. During its passage, several vessels came under Israeli drone attacks near Malta and Crete.

Activists involved with the mission reported that three ships were damaged in these attack. Explosions were heard on some boats, causing concern among those on board.

The Al Jazeera correspondent, Hassan Massoud, who is traveling with the flotilla, reported seeing drones hovering directly over the Alma vessel, one of the biggest ships in the fleet. This ship, like others, carried only humanitarian and medical aid for Gaza.

Despite these dangerous encounters, the people on board the flotilla remain determined. Reports from the ships indicate that morale is high. The crews and activists have no plans to stop their mission. After the attacks, several boats needed maintenance, but they are now ready to continue sailing towards Gaza. This resolve shows the deep commitment of those involved to deliver aid despite the risks they face.

Italy and Spain Respond with Naval Protection

The drone attacks prompted a strong response from European nations. Both Italy and Spain quickly decided to send naval vessels to protect the Global Sumud Flotilla. This move aims to ensure the safety of their citizens and the secure delivery of aid.

Italy's Commitment to Citizen Safety and Aid Delivery

Italy's Defense Minister announced that the country is sending a second ship to support the humanitarian flotilla. This action directly aims to protect the 58 Italian nationals who are part of the mission.

The Italian government emphasizes that its priority is to make sure the aid reaches Gaza without harm to anyone involved.

An Italian ship has already approached the flotilla as a safety measure. Italian officials are actively working to find a diplomatic solution. They want to ensure the aid arrives in Gaza while also protecting their citizens.

This includes careful negotiations to navigate the complex situation and prevent any further danger to the Italians on board. The government is concerned about accusations made against flotilla members by the zeonist government, which adds to the need for careful protection and diplomatic efforts.
